Fethiye Turkey

The port town of Fethiye is one of Turkey's gems, a bustling resort full of Turkish charm. Fethiye is situated on Turkeys Mediterranean coastline on the aptly named Turquoise Coast.

Wander down the maze of narrow streets in the old town and you will find a great selection of good quality restaurants most serving traditional Turkish cuisine, many have outdoor areas shaded by trees or canopies. There are also a number of lively bars a small night club and Fethiye's oldest Haman (Turkish bath). Fethiye's old town is also a great place to shop for souvenirs, carpets, gold and jewellery, leather goods such as handbags, there are lots of original fakes on sale.

A nice place for an evening stroll is along the Fethiye harbour front, there's plenty to see and some good restaurants overlooking the bay where you can sip a cool drink and watch the sun go down. As this is the area that the Fethiye tourist boats are moored, why not book a day trip, these are excellent value, many going around the islands just outside the bay, with stops for swimming and a bbq or buffet lunch included in the price.

A few minutes walk from the harbour you will find the new Ece Marina, recently built it is home to many visiting luxury yachts from around the world. There is also the Ece Marina hotel offering five star accommodation in a beautiful setting over looking the bay.

A short stroll from the Marina brings you to quiet mainly residential area of Fethiye, with a few small family run hotels and pensions a Turkish bath and diving school. This area is also home to the Fethiye boat yards, where Gulets are constructed using traditional boat building methods and materials such as pine.

For the visitor interested in Turkish history, there are plenty of archaeological sites of interest, such as the Impressive 4th century B.C. rock tombs carved into the cliff face behind Fethiye town.

 

Accommodation in Fethiye

The accommodation in Fethiye is mainly provided by smaller family run pensions and hotels where you are guaranteed a warm welcome such as the Yacht Plaza which overlooks the bay and marina. Self catering apartments and villa accommodation is available in the area but is mainly located in the Calis Beach across the bay from Fethiye town, around fifteen minutes by dolmus or water taxi. For five star luxury try the Ece Marina hotel which is in an excellent location with sea views and only a couple of minutes walk from the old town.
